Caveats - 1) I moderated, 2) ACF is my least-favorite format 1. I liked the questions. I would have gotten a few of them. More importantly (at least in the minds of many), in some cases I knew of the idea even though I might not have remembered the answer. I still wouldn't play it if I was active, but it was interesting. 2. Trash - either get rid of it, or keep its distribution constant per packet. Some packets had one, one had two, and some had none. Having it in at a variety of difficulty levels was just jarring. More importantly, point swings from those differences win games. 3. I understand that it's ACF policy, but please consider adding pronunciation guides. I'd like to think I'm relatively good at interpreting various languages and basic science, but there were numerous times where I had no clue as how to pronounce something. If the goal of ACF is to reward the player with the most knowledge, please consider making it possible for the moderator to convey the written information correctly. 4. If you're going to bring buzzers to a tournament, make sure they work. My room used three buzzers in the first round - two didn't have enough lights have four people to play, and the last one that we used through the rest of the tournament featured one side with two lights that wouldn't light and one buzzer that wouldn't lock out. One protest dealt with who buzzed in first and could have changed who won. I'm beyond annoyed that people brought in defective equipment to a national tournament. 5. My thanks to everyone in my room, who were all remarkably nice and understanding re: the above, as well as my errors throughout the day. Also thanks to Bhan/Schluessel for running what seemed to be a snafu-free tournament and for getting scorekeepers.
