Larissa Kelly and Jeff Hoppes were married in the afternoon on Sunday, August 3, 2002 in the chapel of the Concord Academy, Concord, Mass. The small-town, New England ambiance made a perfect setting for the wedding this pair, both of whom just received A.B.s from Princeton in history. I trust they won't be too cross if I faithfully report some details. The ceremony was not one of pomp, befitting its honorees, with perhaps a Quaker or Unitarian philosophy to it. (The clergyman's name was Dr. Justice.) Nor was it lengthy; it lasted nary a quarter of an hour. After an enjoyable ceremony, we saw the happy couple off throwing birdseed at them in lieu of rice (Jeff is an avid birdwatcher). They left immediately for their own pioneer trail to California, which doubles as a two-week sightseeing honeymoon on their way to Berkeley, where they will be studying...you guessed it...history. No names will be changed. Jeff and Larissa were well-loved Princeton College Bowlers. Excellent from the start of their freshman year, they were on the A team as underclassmen and still have improved over the years. Any team with both Mr. Hoppes and Ms. Kelly on it is a formidable one. Their breadth and depth of knowledge is fearsome. But, perhaps even rarer is their courtesy, dedication, enthusiasm and fellowship, in front of the buzzer and otherwise. I speak for (I imagine) all at Princeton when I say that we have been glad and lucky to have Jeff and Larissa as teammates and friends. Our loss is very much the West Coast's gain.
