The IHSSBCA Kickoff is a high school tournament held at several sites across the state of Illinois, usually in mid-November. This tournament is the traditional beginning of the Illinois Scholastic Bowl season, although since its inception, several tournaments have taken dates before Kickoff.

In general, the four sites have been located in the Chicago area, northern Illinois, central Illinois, and southern Illinois (this is the same order in which the results are listed below).  For several years, some of these sites divided teams into "large" and "small" school divisions, however, this division was left strictly to the host, based on the schools attending that site, and did not follow any traditional way of deciding "small" and "large" schools.

For several years, some sites divided teams into "large" and "small" school divisions, however, this division was left strictly to the host, and was quite arbitrary, often putting schools' A and B teams in different divisions. In particular, it did not follow the IHSA Class A (small)/Class AA (large) division system.

WIth the exception of the IHSA State Regionals, and the Masonic Sectionals, this tournament comprises the largest annual attendance of Illinois teams in any given year.

Question quality has varied from year-to-year. For the tournament in 2006-08, Aegis Questions became the supplier. The 2009 tournament will be held on an NAQT IS set.

 +
Excepting IHSA Regionals and Masonic Sectionals, this tournament is the most-attended (as with the others, when sites are combined) of any high school tournament in Illinois.

__NOTOC__

Revision as of 23:03, 28 January 2010

The IHSSBCA Kickoff is a high school tournament held at several sites across the state of Illinois, usually in mid-November. This tournament is the traditional beginning of the Illinois Scholastic Bowl season, although since its inception, several tournaments have taken dates before Kickoff.

For several years, some sites divided teams into "large" and "small" school divisions, however, this division was left strictly to the host, and was quite arbitrary, often putting schools' A and B teams in different divisions. In particular, it did not follow the IHSA Class A (small)/Class AA (large) division system.

Excepting IHSA Regionals and Masonic Sectionals, this tournament is the most-attended (as with the others, when sites are combined) of any high school tournament in Illinois.
