Music mafia is a usually-jokey name for music specialists. While once used to target a specific group and their typical behaviors, it is now used to refer to former members of that group, general insular behavior, or just any music player who says anything.
Charlie Dees has the custom forums rank of "Chairman of Anti-Music Mafia Committee".
History
In the late aughts, "music mafia" referred specifically to the "showoffy" and insular tendency of many such music players. Common occurrences included crowding out other discussion with detailed critiques of erroneous music questions in tournament discussions[1][2] or using other threads to talk about concert music,[3] to the annoyance of other people.
