In high school, Em was recognized as one of the top players in Missouri, leading Louisiana High School to two consecutive Class 2 MSHSAA state championships and two consecutive Very Small School titles at the NAQT Missouri Qualifier. Em was also the top individual scorer in the Traditional Public School division of both the 2018 and 2019 SSNCTs, where they led Louisiana to 10th- and 11th- place finishes, respectively.
