The 2007-08 team from Lisgar Collegiate Institute won the Reach for the Top national championship.

Reach for the Top

Lisgar's Reach season began by hosting an invitational tournament in December. UTS defeated Merivale in the final.

In Ottawa Schoolreach League play, Lisgar went undefeated through the majority of city play, but awkwardly ended in a tie with Merivale in the final. With no other means of breaking the tie, both schools were awarded the city title.

At provincials, Lisgar swept the round-robin portion to take the first seed heading into the televised playoffs. They defeated South Secondary twice (South were the #10 seed, then the highest-scoring first-round loser), beat Vincent Massey in the semifinal, and lost to UTS in the final. Both Lisgar and UTS qualified for Nationals. This was Lisgar's first national qualification and first year in which they had a winning record during TVO's playoffs (despite being a top 5 seed for several years).

At nationals, Lisgar picked up a 9-2 round-robin record, losing to UTS and to KVHS by 5 points, but taking the third seed going into the televised playoffs. They later beat Kennebecasis in the semifinals and defeated UTS 420-415 to win the title. The game was decided by a neg. Interestingly, Lisgar won the national title without winning the provincial title or the city title (outright) - Ottawa-area champions have a history of not winning other titles en route to winning the national title.

Quizbowl

Lisgar A swept the NAQT tournament hosted by Ottawa, with a second Lisgar team taking third. Like earlier years, the win earned the team a HSNCT qualification. However, they cancelled their registration with two weeks to go because of their (unexpected) qualification to Reach nationals.

Lisgar sent two teams to the Ottawa Hybrid Tournament. Both ended up in a 4-way tie for second, but the resolution saw them finish 4th and 5th behind McGill teams. The top two individual scorers of the tournament were both from Lisgar.

Some members of team will re-unite with Tamara Vardomskaya and Jamie Cooper to form a Lisgar all-star team for VETO.
