Nevin Hotson was captain of the Lisgar Reach for the Top team for the 2007-08 school year.

Reach for the Top

Nevin was a member of Lisgar's senior Reach for the Top all four years of high school, playing in 2005, 2006, and 2007, and captaining in 2008. In his final year, he led the team to a National Championship, where Lisgar prevailed over UTS 420-415 in the finals. Along with Lujia Lin (UTS), John Clarke (Sir Winston Churchill), and Ethan Chess (St. Paul's) he was named to the All-Star Team for that competition. See 2008 Lisgar.

Quizbowl

Along with Jamie Cooper, he was a member of the 2006 Lisgar team that was the first in Canada to qualify for the NAQT HSNCT, also earning top junior honors at the OQT Qualification Tournament.

In 2007, he led the team to another undefeated finish at the OQT, thereby qualifying for the HSNCT for the third consecutive year. He led the tournament's scoring by far, with a 113.2 PP20TH, currently 15th highest in NAQT's top individual tournament performances. Later on that year, he earned top-scoring honors in the 2008 Ottawa Hybrid Tournament, one of two high school students (consequently, both from Lisgar) to outscore the over 30 university students who took part in the competition.

Unfortunately, Lisgar elected to withdraw from the 2008 NAQT HSNCT to attend the 2008 Reach for the Top Nationals (held on the same weekend), so he never got the opportunity to replicate his OQT and OHT performance on the American stage.
