The 2024 Chicago Open was played on July 27, 2024. In contrast to the prior year's long period of non-announcement and non-volunteering, an editing team formed almost immediately after the prior CO's conclusion under the leadership of Jordan Brownstein. Young Fenimore Lee returned as logistics coordinator and tournament director. The tournament drew 30 teams, CO's largest field ever.
The finals ended rather early at 10:01 p.m., with top bracket rounds for non-finalists ending around 9 p.m.
Trivia
- By editing about 10/10 of categories per packet himself, Brownstein took on the largest subject load of any CO editor in over a decade (Matt Bollinger had edited about 14/14 of categories per packet as head editor of 2013 Chicago Open).
- This event completed a single-year Triple Crown for Matt Jackson, the first such Triple Crown since 2014. Jackson became the first player ever to go undefeated at all of Division I ICT, ACF Nationals, and CO within a single competition year.
