Bay Area Academic League

The Bay Area Academic League (BAAL) is a defunct Quiz Bowl organization founded by Gaius Stern that has run competitions in the San Francisco Bay Area. In previous years, teams that competed on the Bay Area Quiz Kids TV show qualified by playing at fall BAAL events. Many BAAL events were run using the following format: Bonuses are only read for questions 11, 12, 23, and 24, and if a team gets 15 on the tossup. In the past, BAAL hosted many week-night tournaments during the year with three teams playing at once (there was one week-night tournament in Fall 2012). All 2012-2013 BAAL weekend events were run with 20 tossups/20 bonuses (with two events using 5 point bounce-back bonuses).
