Fantasy quizbowl
Fantasy quizbowl is a fantasy sport centered around quizbowl. Participants form teams of various real quizbowlers and competing against other players using score calculated from real stats like individual PPG, team PPB and win percentage.
History
The first record of the idea on the forums was by anonymous poster "wereplayingbasketball", who was attempting to stimuate the "nebulous prognostication department" in a 2006 discussion of DC/Metro high school quizbowl.[1] This idea was picked up by the likes of Brad Fischer, Alejandro Lopez-Lago, Siva Sundaram, and Greg Peterson before fading away.[2]
The idea was discussed again in 2007 when Jerry Vinokurov mentioned the idea in an individual player ranking thread.[3] In the same thread Brian Ulrich mentioned that there had been an attempt to do so at an NAQT tournament circa 2002, but that information is in the yahoo group.
The first actual league was organized by Dwight Wynne during the 2008-2009 and 2009-2010 seasons.
In 2025 Andrew Zeng proposed a new format in a post that also proposed drafting strategy.[4]
