National High Schools Quiz
The National High Schools Quiz is a secondary school quizbowl-like tournament held annually in South Africa. The tournament involves 285 teams participating in local tournaments which send winners to a regional and then a national level.
The general structure of the event involves speed quizbowl-style questions and format, but buzzers are not used, instead each team alternates attempting to answer questions.
The 2019 championship was held at the Varsity College campus of the Independent Institute of Education in the Sandton area of Johannesburg. The winning team, Veritas College, received a total of 40,000 South African rands (approx. USD $2600) in monetary prizes as well as tablets.
At some point prior to 2012 the tournament also operated a division in Zimbabwe, which was discontinued.
