Salem Community High School is a public high school in Salem, Illinois located east of St. Louis near Centralia. It competes in Class AA, the "large school" division, of the Illinois High School Association’s State Championship Series. The Wildcats also compete in the Southern Illinois Academic Conference and have been participants on WSIU's Hi-Q.
Salem were early contenders in Illinois Scholastic Bowl most notably participating in the very first IHSA State championship game against Quincy, losing 275-539. The Wildcats remained competitive throughout the 1990's under the leadership of coach Joan Bazzetta returning to the IHSA State Finals behind ace, Gary Leuty.
