Went to Nashville (IL) high school, having a somewhat successful career being named to the IHSSBCA All-Sectional Team as a Senior. As a junior, was on a team that made Masonic State and also made IHSA sectionals. All of this was before good quizbowl hit Southern Illinois.
Played collegiately at DePauw, in sort of a middle period when the people who loved trash and wouldn't play academic were graduating and before the people who didn't care and let the team basically fold due to lack of interest started playing.
Notable aspects of career at DePauw: - Was on a team that qualified for TRASHionals in 2005, getting 24th playing as "5 Alive" on the team "Party of Fives". - Was on a team that got 2nd at the NAQT SCT in D2 but didn't get an invite to Nationals despite the third place Chicago team getting invited, likely due to Chicago having a higher PPB and better all around stats; DePauw got 2nd thanks to a bunch of luck and razor-thin winning margins.(Chicago beat DePauw by over 300 in the round robin).
Now the coach at Mountain Lakes in New Jersey.
