VHSL Region 5A North

VHSL Region 5A North was a VHSL region in Class 5A, consisting of schools with roughly between 1500 and 1900 students located generally in the northern half of the state. It contained Conferences 13, 14, 15, and 16, and was created after the 2014 VHSL Realignment. 5A North was in essence (with a few exceptions) a combination of about half of the former members of VHSL's Class AAA Northern and Northwest Regions. In each of the 4 years of 5A North's existence, its champion always finished as the VHSL 5A State Champion. Following the 2018 VHSL Realignment, Region 5A North will be split back up into regions 5C and 5D.

Conference Champions

The top two teams from each conference tournament advanced to regionals.

Patrick Henry (Roanoke) and Stafford moved down from Region 6A South starting after the 2014-15 season, joining Conferences 16 and 15, respectively. Mount Vernon from Conference 13 moved up to Region 6A North after the 2014-15 season, Freedom (Woodbridge) from Conference 15 moved up to 6A South, and Freedom (South Riding) moved down to Region 4A West. Atlee transferred from Region 5A South and joined Conference 16.
