Boston University College Bowl is extremely proud to announce the 2nd annual Bay State Quiz Bowl Classic, a high school tournament to be held on Saturday November 20, 1999 at Boston Universitys College of Arts and Sciences (725 Commonwealth Avenue; Boston, MA). Last years Classic featured 27 high school teams from across Massachusetts, and was a much larger success that we ever could have hoped. For that reason, this years Classic will be open to all high school teams, including those outside of Massachusetts. Just as a rough outline, quiz bowl is an academic trivia competition much like Jeopardy! (if Jeopardy was played in teams). Matches are played between two teams using a lockout buzzer system. Teams score points by correctly answering toss-up questions and the bonus questions that follow. All teams will play in a modified round-robin, followed by playoffs. Subject material is varied; questions will include, but not be limited to history, science, literature, religion, philosophy, geography, sports, and current events. Questions will be provided by National Academic Quiz Tournaments (NAQT), LLC. This years tournament takes on special significance because the winner will earn their school a bid in the 2000 NAQT High School National Championship. This years National Championship will be held in Atlanta, GA on the campus of Georgia Tech, during the weekend of June 10 & 11, 2000. Due to space constraints, the field for the BSQBC will be limited to 24 teams. Teams may consist of any number of players, but no more than 4 team members may play at the same time (basically, it means substitutions are allowed). Schools may send multiple teams, but will be limited to 2 teams each at this point. Depending on the number of responses we get, these numbers may change. The cost for participating will be $30 per team. Schools which bring multiple teams, or who are coming from some massive distance away, may be given leniency in entry fees. Just ask! If you are interested in registering or getting any more information, please contact either BU College Bowl (qbowl_at_...) or Tournament Director Jon Couture (joncooch_at_...). Thanks for reading, and we hope to see you all at the 2nd annual Bay State Quiz Bowl Classic! Jon Couture Boston U.
