Poll Questions Answered

1. Why don't the #1 votes add up to 35?

Three ballots consisted primarily or exclusively of
Canadian schools, including at #1. 23 for Chicago, 6 for
Illinois, 2 for Michigan, 1 for Duke make up the rest.

2. What was the deal with that Duke #1 vote?
 I
can't say, but the same person's poll included several
irregular entries - in fact, their ballot included only
three schools that made the Top 25 and at least half of
their ballot consisted of programs listed on no other
ballots. As Andy already said, it did not come from there.
I can only speculate as to what the motivation
might be for a ballot like this. (The "11" for top Duke
vote is a typo that will be fixed along with another
couple of things.)

3. What is to be done about
this?
Diverse viewpoints to some extent are
useful, and the new tabulation system muffles joke,
protest, or other extreme outlying ballots to some extent
- their effect on the poll results were not
generally significant. However, I cannot help but feel as
if some individuals are intentionally sabotaging the
efforts of myself and others to provide a source of
news/information to the AC community. There will be a formula
regarding ballot acceptability that will be designed to
keep such nonsense votes from being counted before the
next poll.

4. What about Canada?

Hmmm....Canada probably needs its own poll. Though I have heard
of most of the Canadian universities listed, I
imagine neither I nor most voters from south of the
border are aware of even the existence of QB programs
from the bulk of them. It would seem silly to ban
Canadian programs (or British ones, for that matter) from
being mentioned, but at the same time there is little
if any basis for comparison in most cases. This may
change in the future, as more activity takes place up
there and/or people in the USA hear more about it.
