Re: Cross Part 2

This is the second part of my reply. I'm now
replying directly to comments made by Kristin.

I
asked that people refrain from discussing this topic.
I'm going to break my own rule because I'm as
offended as other people were by certain posts from a Mr.
Juliano in qb.

Preface 1) - I'm speaking from my
own personal interpretation of Catholicism. Please
don't generalize about other Catholics based on what I
say.

Preface 2) - I don't apologize for what's in here. If you
don't like it, fine. If you think that I'm a moral
degenerate/hypocrite/root of all evil, fine. I felt that these comments
struck at my soul, and I feel compelled to respond to
this.

assertions that Christians -- and yes, Andy, "true"
Christians too (I have yet to meet a Catholic, including
Andy, who did "

I'm a Catholic, and I don't try
to convert people. I find this an incredibly
offensive stereotype. I don't believe in religious
relativism - I tend to think that Catholicism is the "true
path" - but your own personal choice is your own
personal choice.

Lots of religions do this, as do lots of atheists and
agnostics: lots of atheists have tried to get me to change
my opinions. Scientology advertises on national TV,
as do Baptists, Protestants, Hare Krishnas and
Mormons.

"Commandments in public schools, a large number of Christians
are attempting to make this a nation "

People
like their religion and want to see others follow it.
You can make similar statements regarding specific
governments and religions in Israel, France, China, Russia,
Indonesia ...

As long as people act via legitimate
means, I encourage this. People do what they consider to
be correct for the practicality of this country.
Evaluate what they're trying to do and knock it down on
practical grounds.

Don't attack the random
street lunatic yelling at you - it's a straw man that
can be easily knocked down. Asserting that "everyone"
of a certain creed, sex or culture wants to do
something is as vile a stereotype as any
others.

Also be careful to divorce people who use religion as
a cover for personal gain. This does not mean that
religion itself is bad: it can mean that someone else
hijacked it for selfish reasons.
