"Until Duke beats Maryland A or Chicago A, this will rank as the biggest upset of my career." Ooh! Ooh! *raises hand* You youngsters. At Princeton, 1995, a ragtag mob of Blue Devils (captained by yours truly) upset Maryland A in the single elimination rounds on the final question and then proceeded to get pounded thoroughly by GW (?) in the next round. I think it was GW, at least, I do recall the pounding, however. Part of what made the victory a bit unfortunate is that one of the Maryland players' buzzers malfunctioned on the last question (I believe he pulled it from the jack, actually...) I have to admit I was slightly relieved that we lost, as I had promised to my teammates that they could dunk me in the fountain out in front of the Woodrow Wilson building if we won the tournament. On second thought, though, I'd take the dunking. When I was an undergraduate at Duke (91-95), for some reason, my usual tournament average was 15-20 pts/game, except against Maryland A, when I'd usually get about 40, especially in important matches. And it wasn't because of any unpleasant thoughts toward the team, actually. One of my friends from high school, Jeffrey Newman, was on the team. =) Yale will be my first tournament in five years, and I'm captaining Rutgers' A team! Be nice to us. =) Paul
