Matt's right -- he does have the pleasure of being part of what seemed at the time to be the biggest upset ever. I won't argue that this is bigger, but his post reminded me of it. GW has always run what I consider a nice tournament. In 1997, the eventual round-robin winners were Matt Colvin, Jesse Molesworth, Bill ?, and Khon Lein. Yet even they were not immune. They beat Hamilton's team, and they beat Goodman's team. They beat all the college teams (and there were some good ones -- the Stewarts and James Rogers present among others). In fact, they beat every college team at the tournament. They were still 11-1. Until Duke beats Maryland A or Chicago A, this will rank as the biggest upset of my career. We had a good team there, finishing fifth, but that was only due to a long series of upsets of just about everybody... this team included. I am now 1-5 against Mr. Colvin, so you can view this as the one that got away. Oh, did I mention this was as part of the TJ team? So there you have it. In what's a great exercise for bragging -- qb players' third-favorite activity, after playing and arguing -- I can claim to be one of the youngest people to defeat Matt Colvin head-to-head at a college tournament. (We had a teammate a month younger, so he wins out; if anyone defeated Matt at younger than 16 years, 10 months, I'd like to hear it -- and no, Jeff and Jen's kids don't count! At any rate, we are certainly the youngest by average TEAM to defeat Colvin, at an average of just over 17 years 5 months.) Andy (who still chuckles over the one that got away) http://www.duke.edu/~apg/De-Aff.htm Just Because I Can Post It
