(Note: I am not speaking as Business Manager of TRASH, although I will be referencing TRASH in this post) I don't remember such a decisive debate on the host of a quizbowl tournament. I think the last such controversy was the announcement of the 1995 CBI NCT host (from LA to Florida to Akron?? :) ). I understand how tough it is for some schools to raise funds. Not every school gets funding from their schools, and some of those schools who get such funding get piddly amounts. But I also understand the need to "share the wealth" when it comes to hosts. NAQT may be interested in perhaps working out an agreement with Southwest and other airlines to offer discount rates to teams/players to fly to Los Angeles. JetBlue, for instance, flies from Washington Dulles and New York Kennedy to John Wayne Orange County. National Airlines, Midwest Express and AmericaWest are other options. They can fill the Southwest holes. It also maybe a smart move to join an airline frequent flyer program or web site club - once you join, you can get weekly e-mail updates on "exclusive" flight fares lower than the advertised prices. There's a reason I have FF cards for five airlines :) Just a few ideas to help teams/players/officials and the like... James Dinan
