Without descending into the depths of mudslinging and name calling that has characterized the ICT debate, I'd like to address the HSNCT locale: 1. This is certainly a bit of a curveball from NAQT. I cannot think of a single NAQT HS tournament, be it a simple invitational with an IS set, a State Championship, or the National Championship, that has been held without an explicit affiliation with a college or high school. 2. Since this is significantly outside the realm of prior expectations, I think it's prudent of the QB community at large to at least raise an eyebrow and ask why they chose this location. I, for one, am genuinely curious, and do not ask with any prejudice for or against the idea. I know many others feel the same way. 3. Now that the questions have been asked, it would behoove NAQT to attempt to answer them as best as possible as soon as possible, lest lingering questions turn to accusations and other such nonsense. 4. What would I like to know? a) Who actually submitted this bid? b) Are there any local schools or colleges affiliated with running the tournament? c) If it is not college-affiliated, was this move a deliberate choice by NAQT, or was it because of a significantly superior technical bid? There are other, pickier questions regarding the Myrtle Beach Convention Center that one could ask, but those are neither here nor there at this time. At any rate, this is just my take. -- Eric Steinhauser Y! Mail: e_steinhauser
