I'm going to register my not-particularly-unique opinion because I feel like the West Coasters need some representation from someone who isn't on the West Coast. What Happen? with the ICT this year, it would seem, is that the West Coast teams that had to go to Raleigh and places in the east for a while finally got a major tournament sort of nearby. Penn Bowl is the biggest tournament in the country, and it has been for years, and understandably a large number of West Coast teams can't afford to attend it. Quite simply, they have no less right than East Coast teams to have a tournament nearby that they don't have to scrap up a huge amount of funding for. Admittedly, it sucks a lot that some teams will not be able to attend (I'm a bit skeptical that the number is going to be as high as many predict), but the Cali teams et. al. deserve their shot. It's reasonable to expect that they have as many funding issues traveling to tournaments, and there's nothing wrong with putting it there to help them out just once. England, of course, would be another story, because all but one or two teams would have to spend exorbitant amounts of money to attend (sorry, Oxford...). Still, L.A. isn't London, and it's not that darn expensive to fly there. If it starts being held on the West Coast every year, then we have a valid complaint. But no one says they should always hold the World Cup in Europe... Viva California, Steve Bahnaman, President of the Emory Academic Team who has never visited L.A. and is really excited about the prospects.
