I also don't want to be overly critical. I know it was the first tournament of the year. I know that it is absolutely impossible to write a packet that is both fair and worthwhile for a field that has entirely novice teams on one end and Raj and Kelly on the other. That being said, however, there were several problems. The tossups weren't too bad, but many of the boni were far too long or far too easy, or both. There was one in the first playoff round that had several sentences on the 7 wonders, and they weren't even the HARD wonders. I don't want to criticize Charlie's editing too much, I know he was also editing the high school tournament. But difficulty was an issue, and as Stephen pointed out, packets were mostly written one way or the other. Our packet was written for a Div I field. Most of the others seemed to be aimed at Div II, with some questions even feeling like HS. There isn't much that can be done about the long boni except just learning how to write. However, for the difficulty, I tend to think that if there are separate divisions, there should be separate packets. I know it's extra work for all involved, but it would solve the problem and make tournaments more enjoyable. It would also handle some of the issues being discussed over in the "Future of QB" thread. Anyway, just my thoughts. -Jake
