Hey everybody. This is James again reminding you all about Duck Bowl II, the most fabulous trash tournament ever! The time has not passed for registration, and you can even still get massive amounts of discounts if you send a packet and a letter of intent my way at jmcquiston_at_... . This tournament is fully sponsored by the DUCKS (DePauw University), and we would love to see people from all over this great land (and America Jr. as well). The format of the tournament is as so: Duck Bowl II will be on February 2nd, 2003. The fee will be $100, but discounts will be given for buzzer systems (-$5), moderators (-$10), and the deadlines are: November 26 for a (-$20) deduction, December 31 for a (-$10) deduction and a (+$2)/day fee after January 15th. Other discounts also include a -$10 if anyone from last year wishes to field a team, and a -$5 if someone brings your genial tournament host a can of cancelled soda (Crystal Pepsi, 7 Up Gold, Pepsi Lite, etc) Also, if anyone has to drive more then 300 miles, contact me in advance for a $25 reduction on the fee. If any of you all are interested, e-mail me at jmcquiston_at_d..., call me at (765) 658-6158, or message me the following ways: AIM:EnderJam, Yahoo Mess:Drakulon666, or ICQ:#4083257. The tournament will be decided by the number of teams interested, but should follow the round-robin format with a tournament double-elimination at the end. This tournament has been okayed by the DePauw team, if any of you were wondering, and I am having some very talented helpers for this tournament and want it to go off without a hitch. Movies (5/5): There should at least be one question on each of the following topics: * Comedy * Drama * Action/Adventure * Romance * Science Fiction These topic areas can be covered, but they should have at most one question: * Foreign * Independent * Childrens' * Documentary * Mature The time periods covered should span the following: * 2 from the last 6 months * 2 from the 1990/2000's * 2 from the 1980's * 2 from the pre-1980's * 1 or 2 from any era The questions should also be about 40% talent-based, 40% the film itself-based and 20% other (directors, the business of, etc.) Television (5/5): There should at least two questions on each of the following topics: * Comedy * Drama These should be one question on each of the following topics: * Non-Fiction TV * Childrens' * Daytime * Game (Game Show or so-called "reality") The time periods covered should span the following: * 3 from the 2000's * 2 from the 1990's * 2 from the 1980's * 2 from the pre-1980's * 1 from any era (if a tenth needed) The questions should also be about 40% talent-based, 40% the film itself-based and 20% other (producers, the business of, etc.) Movies & Theater: Broadway Runs, Characters, Plot Summaries, Transgender Theater, Porno Movies, Lead Roles, Mainstream Film and Actors. : 4/4 Music: (5/5) There should be at least one question on each of the following topics: * Mainstream Rock * Straight Pop * Hard/Non-mainstream Rock * Hip-Hop/Urban/Soul * Rap * Country * The remainders can come either from those not listed or a repeat of the ones listed. The time periods covered should span the following: * 2 from the last 6 months * 2 from the 1990/2000's * 2 from the 1980's * 2 from the pre-1980's * 1 or 2 from any era The questions should also be about 50% talent based, 30% song/album based and 20% other. Try to keep indentifications of album from songs or lyrics from songs to a minimum. Sports (5/5): There should be one (and only one) question on each of the following topics: * Major League Baseball * National Football League * NCAA Div. 1A Football * National Basketball Association * NCAA Div. 1 Mens' Basketball * National Hockey League * NASCAR (please shy away from sponsor/driver relations) * Womens' Sports (WNBA, WUSA, NCAA, Olympics, etc.) * The remainder 1 or 2 can come from any of the subjects not listed, such as other NCAA sports, Olympics, minor league sports, etc. The time periods of the questions should roughly split between current sports (within the past 2 seasons) and "old school" (anything beyond the past 2 years). No more than one question should be devoted to sports prior to World War II. Other (5/5): Please, please, for the love of God please try to stick to these: * Two questions on trashy literature. One from the current era, one from the past. Do not use the same genre twice, so, if you write a question on sci-fi, your other one should be on something that isn't sci-fi. * One question on non-literature print, whether that be comic books, comic strips or other newspaper or magazine features. * One question on non-computer gaming of any kind, whether it be board games, RPG games, card games, etc. * One question on anything computer related, whether it be a game or a web site. This is not the place for anything computer science related, think end-user here. * One question on a digestable, whether it be food, drink or some other substance that you really shouldn't be ingesting because it's going to rot your brain. * One question on a non-intended-for-digestion consumer product. * One question based on trashy current events. * The others should be a potpourri of anything not covered above, such as weird facts, urban legends, physical challenges, etc. Three of the final questions will be used as the tiebreaker, with the remaining two being used in place of repetitive questions. This makes the effective TU's/boni asked on a normal game 20, with 5 ready in place of differing circumstances. The questions should each deal with a different topic located in the above section, in order to not give unfair advantages. (The Requirements, which I have modified at the request of Stan, are direct quotations from Mike Burger's Burns... trash tournament, and are excellent).
