The University of Georgia College Bowl Team announces that it will be hosting the Lewis Grizzard Treasure Tournament ("One man's Trash is another man's treasure.") on March 29, 2003, in the Journalism Building on the UGA campus, home to the 2002 SEC Football and 2003 Sugar Bowl Champions. [ sorry couldn't help it :) ]The tournament is being held in conjunction with Ironhead Quiz Productions' invitational at the University of Pittsburgh. (Run by Eric Steinhauser and Carey Clevenger) The tournament will be packet submission, with the packets being emailed to Steinhauser and Clevenger at Ironhead underscore quiz at yahoo dot com for editing. If you are interested in attending, please email the team at either Dawgboy30152 at aol dot com or Quizdogs at uga dot edu sometime before March 3, 2003. If I do not get any emails at least telling me youre coming, the tournament will be called off. At this moment, we have three teams: UGA UTC (without Charlie) Florida We are looking for at least ten (10) teams in an untimed round robin format. If more than ten teams show interest, we will definitely expand the roster to include more teams that we can comfortably accommodate. This tournament is open to anyone that wants to play. As per fees, here is the breakdown: BASE FEE: $90 DISCOUNTS: -$10 for a second team (no discount for third, fourth, etc because no packet is required of them) -$10 for a qualified reader (limit one) -$5 for each working buzzer (limit two) GEOGRAPHIC DISCOUNT: -$10 if coming west of AL/GA border, north of GA/TN/NC border, north of I-26 (including Columbia and Charleston) and South of I-16 (including Macon, Columbus and Savannah) Minimum Fee: $60 AWARDS: After getting all these awards at trash events that do nothing but collect dust, I had an idea: for awards, I am asking for any teams to bring previously won awards to our tournament to be redistributed (or possibly re-won) to the players. Consider it a White Elephant Awards ceremony. There will be a couple of special awards given by UGA as well. FREE AGENTS: We are also accepting free agents for our tournament for those who want to play but have no team. If you are interested in playing as a free agent, please email UGA at the addresses listed above. QUESTIONS: If you have any questions as to the packet requirements, please visit the Ironhead website at www.geocities.com/ironhead_quiz or email Eric and Carey at the address listed above. If you have questions on the UGA end of the tournament, please feel free to email me. We look forward to seeing you all in Athens.
