Not often enough when people do good things do they get recognition here, so consider this my attempt to start a positive trend. I just wanted to say thank you to Mike Burger, Kevin Olmstead and the crew up at Michigan for a great time this past Saturday. When people fall sick or have to work and cannot make tournaments, it's understandable, but a hard thing for a TD to overcome, but Mike created a format that was a lot of fun and gave everyone a good shot to come out on top -- certainly one of the best formats I've seen to see that everyone has at least a chance of winning. The game show round is a great time as well -- go to the tournament next year if only to play the game show round! The setting was also nice -- rather than the sometime fallout- shelter-like Modern Languages Building at U of M, Kevin Olmstead's house was cozy -- including sitting 4 people to a couch for some of the doubles rounds! :) -- and the homecooked lunch was definitely better than fast food. I was very happy with the questions everyone wrote, too -- both those playing in the tournament and those playing down in Chattanooga. Thanks to Charlie for the packet swap -- hope his tournament went well, too. And lastly, it's nice to go to a tournament every once in awhile where the competition is good, but the people are not boorish about winning. All the people who played and staffed were polite and knowledgable and fun to be around. Despite the long-ish drive from Chicagoland, it was well worth the trip. SPJ
