To the surprise of no one, Boston University will be playing host to the TRASH NE Regional tournament on Saturday, November 8, 2003. The tournament will take place in the College of Arts and Sciences building, located at 685 Commonwealth Avenue. WHO CAN PLAY? Teams are welcome from the following locations: * New England * the Northeast US, including New York, New Jersey, and other type areas. * the Canadian Maritimes, Quebec, and Ontario * Nebraska * anywhere else that could be, in some way shape or form, considered to be covered by the designator "NE" WHAT'S THE FORMAT? Teams will play some form of round-robin tournament. It may be straight, double, or modified, depending on number of teams. We endeavor to have everyone play at least 12 rounds. Games will consist of 20 questions in two ten question halves. Standings will be kept by a format to be named later. We've used CBA, NASL, and the NHL formats, so perhaps we'll go really crazy and just use straight win-loss. Questions, of course, are provided by TRASH. Teams will also be able to lame one bonus per round, which their opponent will then get the chance to save for their next bonus. We will also once again shamelessly rip off Michigan and utilize the "get out of -5" card to allow teams a second bite at the apple (you'll still lose the points, but your team returns into play). OK, HOW MUCH IS THIS GOING TO RUN US? First team: $85 Second team: $70 Third team and on: $60 Buzzer system: -$10 Game official: -$10 Distance discount: -$10 per player from at least 150 miles away Clock: +$10 (we're untimed, people!) Teams from Nebraska and all non-US locations: FREE! Minimum fee (for teams not playing gratis, as noted above): $40/team WHAT ARE WE PLAYING FOR? The teams competing at the NE TRASH Regional are playing for many things. Pride, for example. They're also playing for a smashing first place trophy, which of late has been something glued to something else, neither item being something you would normally glue to the other. Individuals also play for neat-o scoring prizes, with a special emphasis this year on items purchased at the American Legion Jerry W. Dobbins Post 157 of Stockton Springs, Maine yard sale. More importantly, teams are playing for automatic bids (and standing for wild card bids) to TRASHionals, the grand championship tournament for TRASH. TRASHionals 2004 will be held during the early part of April. The location for TRASHionals will be announced shortly. ALL RIGHT, YOU SOLD ME. HOW DO I GET THERE? Directions to the Charles River Campus are available at: http://www.bu.edu/admissions/visit/campus/directns.html At this point, aim to be here at 9 AM (at the specific location TBA). SO WHO DO I TELL THAT I WANT TO PLAY? Please send all inquiries to qbowl_at_.... Co-tournament director Ken Hurt will reply so you know you're in and send future mailings as we get closer to the date. ANYTHING ELSE? Nope. Thanks for reading. Register for the NE TRASH Regional early and often!
