I am pleased to announce the 2004 installment of Georgia Tech's MLK Weekend (sic) tournament, to be held Saturday, January 24 in the Instructional Center. Now for the details: WHEN and WHERE? Saturday, January 24, 2004 in the Instructional center. Registration will begin at 8:30 with rounds beginning aruond 9:30. There will be donuts and orange juice, so if you're coming tell us how many people will be eating so we can plan accordingly. The number of rounds of play will vary based upon the size of the field, but the maximum will be 14. Factoring in an hour and a half long lunch break, the tournament should reach conclusion around 7 at the latest, but hopefully earlier. HOW MUCH IS THIS GONNA COST? The following price structure will be used: $100 for the first team -$10 for each additional team -$10 for each team comprised of players playing in their first Tech tournament (this includes last year's MLK, NATSSO in the summer, and Heinrich Boll) -$10 for the first pair of buzzers (if we find ourselves in a shortage we may give additional discounts if you have more than one per team) -$10 for teams that attended Heinrich Boll $15 for tournament packets All checks should be made payable to the Georgia Tech Academic Team WHO EXACTLY IS IN CHARGE? That would be me, Stephen Webb. I will be acting as tournament director and primary question writer/editor. All questions regarding the tournament should be addressed to me at sdwebb91984_at_.... My Number Two for this endeavor will be Georgia Tech freshman Nick Bendler, who will be acting as assisstant TD and chief lackey. All questions will be house written; there is no packet submission requirement. Rounds will be mACF played under ACF rules. Teams who wish to register are asked to do so before January 17 to allow us to pull together schedules. If you are possible, but not certain, please say so, and we'll factor that in with multiple schedules. As for how the field will be divided, we would like to have enough team interest to repeat last year's format of separate fields for Div. I and Div. II. Also, if there is sufficient interest amongst non-undergrads (this includes masters players) we would like to have a Div. II title, an Undergrad title an a Graduate title. The Graduate field would likely be considered as a Masters field, thus bastard teams and players long since graduated would be welcome to play. Again, please direct any questions, comments, or credit card numbers to Stephen Webb at sdwebb91984_at_.... Also, the website will have all this as well as campus maps and driving directions up eventually at http://cyberbuzz.gatech.edu/quizbowl Stephen Webb 2004 MLK TD GaTech School of Physics
