Exactly how does CBI prevent HBCU's from participating in the regular circuit? They used to have a rule prohibiting the players who participated in the HCASC NCT from playing in anything not affiliated with CBI, which was supported by a majority of the participants in the HCASC, but they got rid of that rule more than four years ago (see message 407). The fact is that CBI has perhaps been the most responsive of any of the formats in terms of responding to complaints of players. Compare packets from today with ones from the mid 90's and you should see what I mean. The quality has gone up substantially in recent years mostly because they have been listening to what players want. Recently getting rid of the rule requiring each team have an institutional representive accompany the team is another example of CBI being willing to change things that are not working. Also from Matt Weiner: "as anyone who isn't on the prowl for "anti-CBI" people (aka the vast majority of quizbowl players) should have immediately seen." I'm not quite sure what the aka refers to. Does it mean that the majority of quizbowl players aren't on the prowl for "anti-CBI" players or that the majority of quizbowl players are "anti-CBI?" I certainly hope that it is the former, because if you're saying that most quizbowl players are anti-CBI, it may be the most ridiculous statement I've read in quite a long time, since it is just not true.
