Sorry for the delay on these! On this past Saturday, the University of Michigan hosted the 2004 MLK Invitational with 28 teams competing in two brackets. At the end of bracket play, Chicago A (Andrew Yaphe, Subash Maddipoti, Ed Cohn, and Matt Reece) had swept the maize bracket, while Rochester A (Micah Elsner, Fred Bush, Gordon Arsenoff, and Mike Adelman) was 12-1, losing only to Chicago. In the blue bracket, Michigan A (Matt Lafer, Leo Wolpert, and Robert Wilson) finished undefeated, while Kentucky (Kelly McKenzie, Robert Osborne, Rose Curtin and Chad Money) finished 12-1. In the semifinals, Chicago A defeated Kentucky, while Rochester A upset Michigan A. In the resulting final, Chicago A defeated Rochester A to defend their MLK crown. Individually, Kevin Roth of Michigan State led all scorers with 77.31 PPG, while Kelly McKenzie (63.85), and Andrew Yaphe (62.31) were not far behind. Full results of individual and team statistics can be found at www.umich.edu/~uac/mac Special thanks at this tournament go first and foremost to Adam Kemezis who did the vast majority of packet editing, which proved to be even more gruelling than usual. Thanks also to Michigan staff who came to help read and scorekeep, as well as George of Rochester, Dwight Kidder, Kevin Philpy, and Julie Stahlut. Also, thanks to Florida and Berkeley for providing additional packets for use. If anyone has any comments on the tournament, we'd love to hear them. Feel free to e-mail me at mphilpy at umich.edu. Thanks, Michael Philpy Internal Director, Michigan Academic Competitions
