I had a conversation with a fellow quiz bowler this evening and
thought about something NAQT might consider...
It seems every year, NAQT takes some criticism for how they run SCT
and/or ICT. So what I propose is this: Let NAQT select as many
members as it likes each year at ICT to give a short address to the
people present (usually many of the game's movers and shakers) and
then offer a panel willing to frankly and honestly answer questions
from the people associated with the game. Players almost certainly
want to know things like what the ICT formula is, who writes the
questions they play on every year, what they can expect in coming
months and years, etc. If NAQT were to stand up and offer several
of its staff members for even an hour of questioning, I think it
would facilitate a good discussion and, even if it doesn't actually
SOLVE any problems each year, give players a better idea of the game
they're playing and what the people giving them their most
prestigious tournaments have in mind.
No one pulls any punches and everyone respects everyone else more,
hopefully.
