To be fair to Amanda, if I'm not mistaken, the last three
tournaments DePauw has hosted (including this one) have featured
dropouts within days of being held, and in some cases on the day of
the tournament itself (one of those was Northwestern at last year's
Duck Bowl, due to a misunderstanding for which I cannot apologize
enough). Pretty much everyone has had to experience dropouts, but I
wonder how many have had to do it for *every tournament they've
held* and how often it was on the day of the tournament as opposed
to at least with a few days' warning.
That said, expecting to collect retroactive fees is, of course,
ridiculous and no doubt just a display of exasperation on Amanda's
part (though given the current situation I'd expect to see them in
place at future DPU tournaments). Still, I find it difficult to
blame her too much for being upset. Overall, DePauw has in my
experience run good tournaments and I'm looking forward to this
weekend.
