No offense, but shit happens. If you take a job as TD, you have to be prepared for that kind of thing, because it always happens. Hell, this December we saw a ~75 team high school tournament fizzle when all but 3 teams cancelled within 12-24 hours of the date (weather issues). However, even though that cancellation wrecked our budget and left us ~$300 in the hole due to copying/trophy costs, we didn't lash out at any of the teams or try to charge them. This kind of thing is the risk you take when running a tournament; we just ate our losses, moved on, and looked for other ways to get money. As a fellow SCT host, I find it baffling that someone could be tearing his hair out over it considering that 1) there is no packet editing work since NAQT provides them (we haven't got our copies yet, BTW) 2) there are explicit guidelines on how to schedule matches for any possible number of teams that may show up 3) NAQT members are on call to handle any hosting questions since they have a stake in the tournament. ~20 teams are still showing up, so the only real issue is having enough staffers and equipment to run them; it's not like the tournament will die if there are 21 teams instead of 22. I think I've said enough, but I really don't see what they are trying to accomplish here unless they are dead set on tarnishing both their rep and inadvertently that of NAQT and pissing off registered teams enough to lead to possible further cancellations.
