QOTC XII: Poisoning Pigeons in the Crum was held today at picturesque Swarthmore College. Eight teams competed in a full round robin followed by bracketed playoffs, and in the end Maryland A emerged as the clear victor with a 10-0 record. Princeton, in the form of Chris Frankel solo, came in second with a 6-4 record, he was also the tournament's high scorer and top undergrad team (four teams were eligible). Rounding out the top bracket were Rutgers-Newark at 5-5 and Swarthmore at 4-6. To absolutely nobody's surprise, Nathan Freeburg led the field with (I believe) 20 negs in the prelims; he was also the second individual scorer. I should also mention that he was the unlucky recipient of a particularly nasty quadrilateral of death, which had Princeton, Rutgers, Swarthmore and Freeburg all at 4-3 after the prelims; we decided by general consensus to solve the circle by head-to-head record, and Freeburg lost to the other 1-2 team. All in all, the tournament ran fairly smoothly, despite one no-show (who was replaced by an ad hoc second house team) and a couple too many repeats for me to be truly satisfied with my editing job. Being able to read twelve rounds and be finished with cleanup by 5 PM was quite satisfying. Thanks are due to Charles Meigs and the UCLA team, whose Aztlan Cup packets made this tournament possible, to all my teammates who staffed and competed (some on no notice whatsoever), and of course all of the teams who competed. We hope that you will come back next year! Stats coming when I get them and can find a way to post them. -Chris
