> My name is Amanda and i am wanting to start a college bowl program at > the Univ. of Arkansas at Monticello.. can aniyone offer any advice > or tips on how to do this First off, you should visit this page: http://www.naqt.com/HowTo/start-a-college-team.html It's a nice introduction to the topic. But as for your specific situation at UAM, I would offer the following advice (my mother taught there, and I took classes there 9-10th grade ... my information may be out of date, but might as well give it a shot). Alpha Chi already has a trivia competition to hand out scholarships. You could ask Dr. Stewart in the English department who has done well in the past; they would be good people who could help start a team. As for funding, David Ray would probably be the first person to ask. The department already funds forensics trips, so you could make the same argument for QB. Linda Webster would probably be a good choice for a sponsor, as she is the head of the other honors group at UAM (and I think she gets some money that she could dole out too). As for tournaments, I think that UL-L is about as close as you're going to get. UA-F is a bit of a drive, but probably worth it. I think that once you're a recognized club, you can use a van from the UAM motor pool. As for equipment, I know that the Drew County Educational co-op has buzzers. You could probably borrow them for a long time; I think they only use them for the annual junior high quiz bowl meet. You can contact me at jbg [at] princeton.edu Good luck, Jordan Boyd-Graber
