The Princeton College Bowl Club would like to announce a fall packet submission tournament: Kickboxer Classic: "Down with Game Shows" will be held on Saturday, November 6, 2004, and anyone interested in quality academic competition is invited to attend. The tournament will be designed as both a transition for newer players getting accustomed to the game and a warm up for experienced players getting back in form. Prelim round questions will be a small step up from ACF Fall in difficulty, while the level of the playoff questions will be closer to that of ACF Regionals or most mainstream packet submission tournaments. Format is dependent on the number of teams, though it most likely will be round robin with playoffs. I'm going to cap the field at 15 tentatively. Basic fees are: First team: $100 Each additional team: $80 Working buzzer discount: -$10/buzzer Minimum fee per team: $60 Travel discounts are also available at my discretion. Packets: All A and B teams are expected to submit a packet in order to play. B teams may ask for an exemption if all of the team members are first year players. Each packet must be 25/25 (tossups/bonuses) and, as was mentioned, be just a small notch up from ACF Fall in difficulty. For a general idea of what to aim for, you can download Princeton's Buzzerfest 2004 packet set at http://www.princeton.edu/~cbowl/bz2004/Buzzerfest%202004.zip as a reference, but be sure and try to write your questions on the easier side of things. For the packet distribution, I drew up a detailed list of guidelines here: http://www.princeton.edu/~cbowl/princetondistribution.html Please note that the high level of detail is mainly a way to discourage common writing mistakes and give newer players and teams an idea of what works and does not work. The actual distribution for the final packets will be a little less strict, and I won't reject packets if they don't conform perfectly. Deadlines for packets to be submitted are as follows: September 17: -$40 October 1: -$20 October 8: -$10 October 15: no penalty October 22: +$20 October 29: +$40 After October 29: +$50 and a team may only enter at my discretion. I made the late fees pretty steep because it just makes things that much easier on the editing process (and ensures a better final product) if every team gets its stuff in on time. I reserve the right to return packets that are egregiously below quality standards as well, so don't just rush things either. If your team has issues with time or writing experience, let me know as soon as you can and I'll be happy to work with you re: fees and deadlines. Finally, on another note, club vice president Dan Benediktson has expressed interest in hosting a "Name That Tune"-style popular music singles tournament as a post-tournament diversion. If you would be interested or would like some more information, e-mail me and I'll forward it to Dan. E-mail me at cfrankel (at) princeton.edu to register for Kickboxer Classic, ask any other questions about the tournament, or discuss why Kickboxer is the greatest movie ever. -Chris Frankel -Princeton College Bowl
