DATELINE: Boulder, Colorado The Loose Bobbleheads are Trivia Bowl and TRASH Rocky Mountain Regional Champions. "The Loose Bobbleheads" retained the Trivia Bowl Championship for a second year, after being pressed to the limit by "Isn't Living in Boston Enough of a Curse?" at the end of the double elimination playoffs on Sunday November 7th at the Coors Events Conference Center on the University of Colorado Campus, Boulder. Both "The Loose Bobbleheads" from Group A, and "Auspicious Minds" from Group B were undefeated after group round robin play held Saturday, November 6th in the University Memorial Center, also at CU. They advanced to the final tournament along with the second and third seeds "The Little Lebowski Urban Achievers" and "Sink the Bizmarkee!" from Group A, as well as "Isn't living in Boston Enough of a Curse?" and "Simjo & Friends" from Group B. Other teams participating included "Team X" (a student pickup team), "Fed Up With People: Alferd Packer Vindicated", and "The Young Pilgrims" in Group A, plus "J is for Genius", "WWLD (What Would Lucious Do?)", and "Team Y" (a combined student & community pickup team)in Group B. The Bobbleheads held form and advanced to the final, beating Boston and the Minds, and awaited the results of the elimination bracket. Boston emerged with a victory over the Minds to move from the elimination bracket into the finals. Even though the Bobbleheads handled Boston earlier in the day 340-195, Boston then issued the Loose Bobbleheads their lone blemish on their record by winning the first final match 200-165. Thus with both teams having one loss, the absolute final did not see Boston emulating this years Red Sox, but with the Bobbleheads claming victory 225-160, with the outcome undecided till the final tossup question which the Bobbleheads answered and obtained the bonus for margin of victory. Full individual and team statistics will be posted soon at http://home.comcast.net/~triviabowl (note that Team X was a pickup team on Saturday among students, and would have qualified for the final 6 but was unavailable the following day, thus the bid was extended to "Sink the Bizmarkee!"). The CU Trivia Bowl began back in 1968, headed by CU marketing professor David Bowen. Bowen created the event after coaching the champion team from the University of Colorado on the G.E. College Bowl, putting together a non-academic popular culture event as a sign of the times. The CU Trivia Bowl also has served as the T.R.A.S.H. Rocky Regional since 2003.
