The University of Oklahoma Academic Team is interested in holding a packet-submission tournament sometime in March. The best dates for us to hold it are March 5 and March 26. Right now, I need to gauge interest in such a tournament. If there is enough interest, we will decide on tournament costs and additional rules. Two features that have been worked out are as follows: (1) Each packet that a team submits must contain 20 tossups and 20 bonuses and have a common theme, which a committee will approve. The packets must be half academic material and half TRASH material. You can elect to divide the packet in two ways: either write all the tossups with one type of subject and the bonuses with the other, or write ten tossups and ten bonuses with each type. (2) This tournament will have two brackets. Smaller schools and less experienced teams (i.e., teams consisting of only first-year and second-year players) will be placed in one bracket, and larger schools and more experienced teams will be in the other. I would also like to point out that it would not be necessary to write a packet to gain entry into the tournament. You can contact Jeremy Hixson at kradakar at ou dot edu or me at mking3472 at ou dot edu to inform the team of how you feel about this proposed tournament. Matthew S. King Vice President, Oklahoma Academic Team
