Not to butt in here (although this "CHALLENGE" seems like a very thinly-veiled response to a certain public discussion on the HSQB forum), but if Michigan State's team wants to play Michigan's so badly, how about it actually starts going to tournaments? Considering that a) the Midwest is the most active region in the country, b) Michigan is one of, if not the, most active teams in the country in terms of tournament attendence (I can think of 8-9 tournaments off the top of my head, including both nationals), c) Michigan State only played in one quiz bowl tournament for the 2004-2005 season (MLK, which was hosted by Michigan and thus precluded the possibility of a match between full strength teams) and has not attended a national quiz bowl tournament since 2001, it looks pretty clear that only one party, ironically the one calling out the other, is by far on the short end of effort. See, when my team wants to play against another school (especially a close one in our region), we actually go to quiz bowl tournaments where they would also be in attendence. Not only do we get to play these teams (often multiple times in a day), but we also get to hear a full day's worth of questions, compete against other teams, and avoid the hassle of driving out once a month to play a single game and require specially written packets. Just going to two or three whole tournaments would meet your five match quota, and offer far more amenities on top. Is there some compelling reason why there isn't a viable option for a quiz bowl club to go to quiz bowl tournaments? -frankel (not posting out of any sycophancy towards Michigan or animosity towards Michigan State, but out of annoyance at unnecessary drama that could be resolved easily using common sense)
