The University of Rochester's Thelion Society would like to announce that we'll be hosting the 3rd annual Frederick Douglass Invitational Championship on Saturday the 1st of October, 2005 here in Rochester, NY. As in the last two years, this tournament will use an NAQT invitational series. This tournament is an opportunity for newcomers (both players and teams) to the quizbowl society to attend a tournament early in the year which runs on questions accessible both to newbies and veterans. As always, we encourage more seasoned teams and players to attend and offer a higher level of competition, though they may find the questions slightly on the easier side. ***A change from years past: This year, we are at least temporarily planning to run this as a modified CUT-style tournament. This means that while experienced players and teams are welcome, teams with players that have 2 or more years of college quizbowl experience will be asked to limit themselves to two players per team. If you or your club might be interested in attending this year's FDIC, please send an email to me at mynameisdan_at_... (mynameisdan at hotmail dot com). This isn't binding in any way, just a gauge to see what level of interest we are at. Tournament fees and other details will come out sometime in the future as they become available and created. Also, if you are interested but have questions and/or comments about the CUT-style running of this tournament, please feel free to let me know. We look forward to seeing another large turnout this October. - Dan Blake President, UR Thelion Society and FDIC Tournament Director
