I forget which Texas school has those two terms
on their lexicon.
What I am curious to know
is this: how can potentially good college players be
identified in high school? What traits about a good HS
player will identify her/him as a rising star on the
college level, or as a player who shows up to a practice
or two, never to be seen again?
For example,
Robbie Moose, who was from my high school, was the state
AA player of the year in basketball, averaging over
30 PPG. He failed to make the starting team at a D1
school.
Yet, Ralph Sampson, from Harrisonburg HS, also a AA
school in Virginia, was able to light up the boards at
UVA and won all kinds of awards.
So, the
question is: how are good college players ID'ed in high
school? Not all board-lighters are created equally ...
