Andy, one potential problem I see with your
system is this: suppose the original bracketing had
mistakes, and by chance the second-best team plays the best
team on Friday night (as evidenced by stats earned
that night) and loses by 5. That relegates that team
to the second tier on Saturday morning. What happens
if that team wins all six games on Saturday morning?
They earn the #8 seed, and a potential quarterfinal
match with the best team in the field.
It would
thus be to that team's advantage to "tank", say, three
of its games to get the #11 seed, where it can play
#6 in the second round and the 3-14 winner in the
quarters. Even going 0-6 might be better, for while you
have to play #3 in the second round, it might give you
a better chance of advancing further than if you
draw #1 in the quarters.
