First of all, I don't think this is something Stats99 can handle very well. =) I'll consider adding it to a future version... nah. Sorry. Not gonna happen. Second, either nobody reads Andy Goss's posts or everyone thinks his reference to the Joker ("picker, grinner, lover," etc.) is too easy, so I'll just say it and assume y'all knew it already. Third, an erratum: I wrote "Texas Star" earlier this afternoon but meant "Texaco Star." The state and the gas station are easily confused. Fourth, while I agree with Vik that one or two of the comments in the gender thread were sexist, I worry about what happens when people assume that the topic is *a priori* off-limits. I would like for more women to play this game enthusiastically and well, partly for selfish reason (by comparison, I would also like to know of more female baseball fans) but mostly because I'd like to see a lot more *people* interested in and good at this game. Alas, it has been perceived in the past as a male-dominated sport. There are various theories on this -- on one extreme is the idea that men's boorish behavior drives women away. On the other is Alex Trebek's theory that women are simply slower on the buzzer. (I'll probably get in trouble for attributing it to Trebek but I'm almost dead certain I saw him muse about this *on the air* with a contestant once.) My guess is that only when more women play this game will the fact that they're female become functionally irrelevant. Matt
