Patty said: "The reverse has already happened in the UK; after the Oriel/Open UNIVERSITY CHALLENGE debacle of two years ago (they wuz robbed, but I'm biased...), nobody who's been on a quiz game show can be on UC (the sole "legit" QB outlet here). Doesn't strike me as necessarily a good idea. What if it sours the game's reputation?" Generally, I agree - this isn't a smart idea. Though in the end, University Challenge have had to relent. I'll be appearing on the next series for St John's, Oxford, despite having QB-ed for years, done game shows and even run tournaments that they've known about and helped with. It's less a thing of whether you've been on quiz shows before, and more whether you are prepared to play their game of wanting "entertainment" as well as just the victory - if you are, then they'll have you whatever. I've just remembered an even better illustration of this - Ian Bayley of Balliol is also on the next series, and I'm sure a load of you remember him from various NAQT ICTs - he's even been on the show before, but they've bent the rules to let him reappear, despite *knowing* how good at QB he is. There is hope. Rob.
