>>I imagine if the same thing happens in the Canadian election on the 27th (in which I am an absentee "elector"), we won't be seeing the tanks.I failed to realize that America was the only true democracy, and that the rest of us are just faking it. << Well, there *is* the fact that Canada probably hasn't had enough tanks in the country to field an armored corps since 1945 or so. But I do apologize for any real or perceived insult to democracies *other* than the United States. Oh, and before we start going crazy about how morally corrupt the American electoral system is, let's just consider John (?) Ashcroft, of Missouri. (Yes, the one who lost to the corpse.) Heaven knows, the man could have contested the election results - and apparently, there is REAL reason to contest them. But in the interests that are apparently least of all his own, he is not contesting, thus the corpse wins. And while the situation as a whole is anywhere between comical to bizarre, one can't help but applaud Ashcroft's actions. Though I, for one, would NOT at all mind seeing a lawsuit develop to require that now-Sen. Carnahan (the corpse, not the wife) be seated in Senate for at least a few minutes. Probably can get more vital signs out of him than out of Strom Thurmond anyways... - Mikhail [who did not vote, but couldn't anyways, so just wound up working the Libertarian Party campaign in DC local elections.
