It seems to me that lexica started as a way to explain Quiz Bowl jargon to new players and the otherwise uninformed, but within the last ten years have been transformed into a (mostly) hilarious compendium of bizarre humor and inside jokes, which only become funnier as you continue playing on the circuit and get to meet many of the people that are the subject of the jokes. It also seems that a lot of credit is given in the Quiz Bowl community to the Maryland-College Park program when it comes to carrying the torch for lexica, so as a public service ;) their website, which has a lot of informative links and is fun to surf around on (but not necessarily suitable for minors), is at: http://www.inform.umd.edu/Student/Campus_Activities/StudentOrg/maqt/index.html I''m not connected to UMCP Quiz Bowl in any way but I think they do (did) a good job. -Adam Schaible Philadelphia, PA --original post-- By: _Grenfell_ Date: 12/2/00 2:09 pm I was just wondering, what exactly is a lexicon, in the context of Quiz Bowl? I have seen them on various pages but I don't quite understand what they are. Is it just a dictionary of Quiz Bowl slang and jargon?
