************************************************ ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS ************************************************ This tournament could not have taken place without the concerted efforts of many volunteers. First and foremost, thanks to my co-editors Brian Ulrich and Joel Velasco, who put in a lot of work in a short time to get the packets we need ready. Thanks also to Mark Zimmer, tournament director emeritus, who wrote the finals packet, ordered the T-shirts, bought the plaques and moderated. There *may* be additional T-shirts left (and they are cool just ask any staffer who got one for free), and, if you are interested in picking one up for $8, contact Mark mzimmer_at_.... Next, thanks to our moderators and staff. Eric Hillemann, Steve Lange, Dave Dorman, Matt Larson and Doug Scott moderated along with Mark, and did a great job with the several errors in the packets which need to be corrected on the fly. Sheila Ross was our statsmaster, negotiating the Engineering Hall computer system to make it do our bidding. Jennifer Satchwell was a full-time scorekeeper, a sometimes-boring job, and pulled it off very nicely. Thanks also to Joe Gratz for getting the stats program we used. Adam Engelhart led the effort to make the schedule and get team folders ready. And, finally, thanks very much to all the teams for being good-natured about packet typos, deleted answers and other hiccups that made the tournament bump a bit from time to time. The air of friendly competition made the tournament run smoothly, and good sportsmanship was the rule. Thanks to the teams also for taking more time out of their Fridays to let us run Friday/Saturday, which eased the pressure of time on our 14 rounds, and for showing up on time, so that we could get started quickly. Your commitment to making this tournament work was, finally, the key to success. If I have forgotten anyone who helped put this tournament over, I sincerely apologize. I am only now catching up on the sleep I lost during the week, and felt a bit addled this morning. My thanks to everyone who pitched in to help. ***************************************************** This was my last Elvis, and first tournament as an editor, and it was an interesting experience. I have never viewed a tournament almost entirely from the headquarters room before, but I think I could get used to it now and again, learning from what I did this time. I hope all the teams had a good time, enough to want to come back for Elvis 15 in 2002. Regards and respect, Steve Watchorn UW-Madison Quiz Bowl
