Brief Elvis Results and Acknowledgements

The 14th Annual Elvis Aaron Presley Memorial (?)
Invitational Tournament was held at the University of
Wisconsin - Madison on February 2nd and 3rd, 2001. On
fairly blustery winter days, 12 teams showed up to have
some fun, try to answer a few questions, and win some
cool (and cheap) prizes.

Congratulations to
Michigan, which came a fair way and walked off with the
team trophy. Ben Heller, Ryan McClarren, Paul Litvak
and Mark Calaguas played very well through all the
various question subjects (and skill levels), to win with
an impressive scoring average and balance (I do not
have personal and team stats immediately, but they are
available and will be posted within a few days). They won
the round-robin play (a full round-robin followed by
three brackets of four teams which played a round
within themselves) with a 12-2 record, and won the
single, simple final to cement their
championship.

Also showing strong was out second-place finisher,
Iowa State (TAANSTAFL), who finished with an 11-3
record. Paul Tomlinson, Mark Cvijanovich, Josh Kortbein
and Aubrey Da Cunha played tough in the final,
fighting back from a hundred point deficit to make it
close over the last few questions of the match. Josh
Kortbein also won the individual scoring title, complete
with "Elvis King" plaque.

Results below are not
in order of finish, which will be posted with full
stats.

Also finishing in the top 4 were Carleton Africanus
Major and Iowa (The Best of Sade). The second four were
Chicago (Flesh for Lulu), Chicago (Sisters of Mercy),
Wisconsin (People of Jordan) and Minnesota (Is All This Gin
Bad for My Baby?). The third bracket had Minnesota
(Deadhorsebeaters), Carleton Africanus Minor, Wisconsin (Boring
People Named Smith) and Wisconsin (Might Kushal Has
Struck Out).

Forgive me if my memory is not quite
up to snuff, but other top individual scorers and
winners of tacky but dear Elvis prizes were Mike Altman
(Lulu) from Chicago Flesh for Lulu, St. Jude the Obscure
(real name I dont have at the moment) from (I believe)
Chicago Sisters of Mercy, Shane Ewert from Carleton
Africanus Major, and Frank Swoboda from Iowa (The Best of
Sade).

Full stats will be available shortly. Paper or
electronic copies of the questions submitted for our
tournament (but not including those we traded for, which we
leave to their source tournaments to market) are
available for $15 or a trade for an equal number of packets
we dont have. Email me if you are
interested.

All teams attending the Elvis get complimentary
copies of all the packets we used, which will be emailed
to you shortly.
