The contenders in Starkeville are (alphabetically) Berry College, Florida State University, University of Florida, University of Georgia. USF has shown improvement down south, but isn't ready yet. Georgia State has been competitive as recently has last year, but seems to have dropped off the face of the earth this year - I haven't seen them anywhere. Berry College: The 1999 Region VI winner, an already strong Berry team has been boosted by the return of Chris and Andrew. Judging by NAQT and ACF Regionals this year, they are much better than Berry's very good team of a year ago, perhaps even better than the team that won the region two years ago. FSU: This team will live or die with Luke Tully. His improved performance has kept the team in tournaments (67 ppg at NAQT IFT this year), but he hasn't received much support from the rest of his team. CBI isn't his strongest format, but the team will make some noise in the playoffs. UGA: Hit hard by the graduation of one of their better CBI players, UGA should be led by Victoria and Brian. Both are strong players and I would not be surprised to see them in the finals again this year. UF: Region VI winners last year, UF returns its top three players in Kevin, Mark, and Dan - losing Jeff to eligibility restrictions. He is replaced by John Allan, an enthusiastic sophomore who has led our B teams the past two years and saw limited duty as CBI alternate last year. If the team can mesh before regionals, they could do very well. I guess we'll find out soon. -Daniel Nordby Communications Director, UF College Bowl
