I've held back long enough. I was going to say this to Shaun, but at least I know when he's just getting it out of his system. Shaun is someone I've met and I consider a class act, one of a few people at Maryland who, contrary to what I may seem to believe, are nice guys who get overcompetitive. (Some would argue I also fall in this category.) However, it appears that Mr. Hu could use a lesson in humility. Allow me to try. The statement that set me off was this: 'Oh and when you screw a team, just come out and say it, you screwed our team with your "fair" system.' Riiiiiiiiiiiight. Andy, face facts. Maryland just isn't that good. Look at Penn Bowl: you finished 10-6, the *worst* team to make the playoffs. You nearly got beat out by John Nam playing by himself, the same John Nam you want nothing to do with. Compare these numbers: Duke vs. Maryland TUPPTH: Duke, 5.17 to 4.28 PP20TH: Duke, 278 to 238 We were 7-6, you were 9-4. Either the Southeast was much stronger than the Mid-Atlantic or breaks bounced just right. I would venture to guess the latter, as our stats were comparable to 10-3 Florida Atlantic. Now, what does this mean? It means that Maryland is not only no longer one of the top teams in the nation, they may not be one of the top teams in the ACC. If you didn't qualify, then don't sit there and whine about how you got screwed by the system. Whine to yourself and to your teammates about how you didn't get too many tossups, or you only averaged so much per game. Listen, the past is over. Maryland doesn't have, nor did it ever have, divine right to enter any national championship. Furthermore, it's not like this is ACF, where everyone who wants to can play; you knew coming in you had to earn it. You assumed you did when you didn't. So be it. Welcome to mediocrity, Maryland. It's where 90% of programs are or aspire to be. Enjoy your stay. Andy Goss NOTE: The preceding comments reflect only my own damned opinion, and not those of Duke University or the Academic Team. They are not directed toward the University of Maryland College Park as a whole, and should be taken at face value.
